Benchmark x MATTER commissioned modular seating system designed for museum gallery and breakout spaces, encouraging gathering, pausing, and reconfiguration.

problem
Developed in response to a brief exploring contemporary museum furniture, the project addresses the lack of flexible, human-scaled seating that supports both social interaction and quiet reflection within cultural spaces.
solution
Inspired by the form and ritual of shared objects, the bench draws on anthropological ideas of gathering and rest. Its silhouette references everyday café culture, while its materiality and proportions are calibrated for durability, comfort, and public use within museum environments.

Developed in collaboration with Benchmark, the project was refined through industry feedback from MATTER, scale testing, and material studies to ensure feasibility, longevity, and manufacturability. Iterative prototyping informed ergonomic decisions and modular connections, resulting in a system that balances domestic warmth with institutional robustness.
