A playful satirical piece of furniture for protests
00
problem
Designed in response to a brief exploring portable protest furniture, Pavement Prop-and-Gander playfully critiques the comfort-driven contradictions of modern activism.
solution
Taking the form of a classic pavement sign, it doubles as a protestor’s rest station: a bench for tired legs, a bin for discarded flyers, and a cup holder for a cappuccino.
CNC machined from half a sheet of OSB, the piece flat-packs and slots together without glue, designed for quick assembly in public spaces. The project uses satire to reflect on the commercialisation and performance of protest culture while meeting the practical brief requirements of portability, ergonomic consideration, and CNC fabrication.

The design evolved through observation, sketching, and quick prototypes to test scale, ergonomics, and assembly, before being resolved as a CNC-cut, interlocking OSB system that reinforces the project’s commentary on temporary protest culture.
