spent
A single-use, regenerative coffee cup made from spent coffee grounds, reframing disposability as an act of return.

problem
Designed in response to the environmental impact of disposable coffee cups, Spent challenges the contradiction between convenience culture and sustainability, questioning whether single-use products can meaningfully contribute beyond their moment of use.
solution
Spent reimagines disposability as a regenerative act, using waste coffee grounds to form a cup that returns nutrients to the soil after use, transforming consumption into a closed-loop system.
Developed as a speculative material and systems-led project, the cup explores alternative material futures through the reuse of café waste. Its form is intentionally simple, allowing the material narrative to take precedence while remaining compatible with existing coffee-drinking habits.

Through material experimentation, prototyping, and lifecycle thinking, the project tested how spent coffee grounds could be bound, formed, and degraded responsibly. The outcome balances practicality with provocation, using everyday ritual to prompt reflection on waste, value, and regeneration within coffee culture.
